2005 Buick Century Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heater Core on 2005 Buick Century?
A: Draining coolant should be the first step when replacing the heater core. Position aside the heater hose inlet and outlet clamp at the heater core using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) before disconnecting the inlet and outlet heater hoses. Start by removing all components located at floor holes including vacuum tank, floor carpet and the rear floor air outlet duct from floor reinforcement. Then disconnect the heater core outlet cover. First remove the bolts from the vacuum harness bracket before setting it aside then detach the screws from the heater core outlet cover followed by removing the cover itself. The installation process begins by extracting heater core cover screws followed by cover removal and discarding (1, 2) the heater core cover sealing elements and (3) caulk and (1) outer heater core seal and (4) upper, center, side sealing components from the HVAC lower case. Installation of the process begins with attaching the heater core pipe retainer clamp onto heater core pipes before installing the side seals , upper seal , center seal , and lower seal to the HVAC case followed by fitting the heater core to the HVAC lower case. Use a screw to install on the heater core retainer clamp while tightening to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). The next step involves screw installation on the heater core support bracket and tightening it to this same torque specification. Apply the heater core outer seal next followed by new seals and to the heater core cover before applying caulk to the cover. Afterward, install the cover along with its screws while tightening them to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). Reinstall the HVAC vacuum harness bracket along with its screws by tightening them to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Afterward, connect the rear floor air outlet duct to the heater core outlet cover and install each screw with a torque of 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). The heater core outlet cover receives the rear floor air outlet duct before installing the duct into the floor reinforcement holes followed by floor carpet return and vacuum tank installation. Use Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to move the heater core hose clamps before connecting the heating system hoses to the heater core while also filling the coolant into the system.
