2005 Buick Century Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Vacuum Brake Booster (3.1L) on 2005 Buick Century?
A: To replace the vacuum Brake Booster (3.1L) you will need the power Brake Booster holder known as j 22805-b. Start your work by taking off the battery negative terminal followed by removing the left instrument panel insulator. Unplug the stoplamp switch from its electrical connector and slide away its retaining clip in order to disconnect the brake pushrod from the Brake Pedal. Drain part of the cooling system and remove the cross vehicle brace together with the air cleaner inlet duct. Step one requires you to disconnect all three fuel system tubes including the evap canister purge valve, fuel feed, and return pipes. Place them out of the work area. Detach coolant lines that bypass the heater tank and take off the heater inlet pipe. Move the engine forward to gain better access then remove the brake fluid level sensor electric connection. Avoid separating the brake pipes from the master cylinder to the bpmv. Instead, unscrew and put aside both master cylinder retaining nuts. Sever the connection between Brake Booster and the vacuum check valve and assemble both elements in the vacuum hose. Install the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) to the booster through the master cylinder retaining nuts. Unlock the booster from the cowl and push the Brake Booster locking tab to the side using a flat-blade tool as you turn the booster counterclockwise. Take out both the vacuum Brake Booster followed by the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). After pushing the pushrod gently through the hole without hurting the insulator you should position the vacuum Brake Booster counterclockwise on the cowl while ensuring the locking flanges make contact. Use a ratchet on the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B) to rotate the vacuum Brake Booster by hand when the locking tab must not have a flat-blade tool engaged. Connect all vacuum hose connections then take away the power Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Install the master cylinder back onto the booster then use 25 nm torque value (18 foot pounds) to properly tighten its retaining nuts. The left and right engine mount struts must be installed while the engine returns to its original position and the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector is connected. Put the heater inlet into place after connecting the bypass hoses for coolant inlet and outlet. Also reattach the evap canister purge valve hose plus fuel and return lines. At last place the air cleaner inlet duct while mounting the cross vehicle brace and fill the coolant system then link the brake pushrod to the pedal and install the hold-down retainer. Next attach the stoplamp switch wire and left instrument panel gasket before reconnecting the battery power source.
