2005 Buick LaCrosse Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the lower ball joint on 2005 Buick LaCrosse?
A: You need to start by lifting and supporting the vehicle, and then take off the tire and wheel. Use the drill bit to pierce a starting hole through the rivets and keep drilling the rest of the rivets. Hit each rivet head with the chisel and hammer to take them out. After that, take out the cotter pin from the ball stud and loosen the ball stud nut. Put the Ball Joint/stud separator (J41820) onto the ball stud and lower Control Arm, and then turn the ball stud nut to the left to free the ball stud from the Steering Knuckle. Carefully remove the j41820, then unscrew and take out the ball stud nut, and take out the ball stud from the lower Control Arm. Start installation by inserting the ball stud into the lower Control Arm, followed by new ball stud bolts facing down and away from the ball stud, following the information in the fastener notice. Using the new ball stud nuts, tighten both of them to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.). Make sure the ball stud is on the Steering Knuckle and screw the ball stud castle nut on, tightening it with a 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) torque plus an extra 120 degrees. Make sure to place a new cotter pin, bend its ends, put the wheels and tire back on, lower the car, and finally verify the wheel alignment.
