  A: To replace the valve lifters first, always ensure all the valve train part were in order for reinstallation back to their original location with interchangeable mating surfaces. Start by virtue of removing rocker arms, pushrods, and pedestals followed by the lower Intake Manifold and gaskets. Then, remove the bolts of the valve guide retainers and the valve retainers itself, remove also the valve lifter guides and valve lifters. However, do pay close attention to the valve lifters and the guides, and inspect them before you dip them in prelube from gm p/n 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704) or a comparable one. Replace the valve lifters and the valve lifter guides, then reattach the valve guide retainer and lock the valve guide retainer bolts at 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Finally, install the lower Intake Manifold and its gaskets, valve rocker arms, as well as pushrods and pedestals.
