2005 Buick Park Avenue Fuel Level Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Fuel Level Sensor in the fuel sender assembly on 2005 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Before starting to replace a Fuel Level Sensor assembly you need to drain the Fuel Tank while relieving fuel system pressure. First remove the access panel bolts then pull off the Fuel Level Sensor access panel together with the rear compartment floor trim. Start by disconnecting the Fuel Level Sensor quick-connect fittings while using shop towels to contain possible fuel leakage then disconnect the electrical connectors of the sensor and ftp sensor. The Fuel Level Sensor lock nut wrench (J 39765) allows retention ring removal so the modular Fuel Level Sensor assembly springs upward when this step is done correctly. Extract the Fuel Level Sensor assembly but maintain safe distance from fuel pipes to protect their integrity. Slowly incline the Fuel Level Sensor when taking it out to protect the float while transferring residual fuel to an authorized container. First clean the areas that require sealing on the Fuel Level Sensor then install the new Fuel Level Sensor seal onto the Fuel Tank. Install the Fuel Level Sensor assembly using the Fuel Level Sensor lock nut wrench (J 39765) to install the Fuel Level Sensor lock ring afterward. Next, connect all items starting with the quick-connect fittings then proceeding to the Fuel Level Sensor electrical connector and finally the Fuel Tank pressure sensor electrical connector. Fuel the tank before installing the fuel filler pipe cap followed by negative cable reconnection. A system leak check should be conducted after turning the ignition on for 2 seconds then off for 10 seconds followed by another ignition turn-on while actively looking for fuel leaks. Put on the Fuel Level Sensor access panel and secure its bolts at 2 n.m (18 lb in) before reinstalling the rear compartment floor trim and the fuel injector sight shield.
