2005 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Cadillac CTS?
A: The first step to replace the thermal expansion valve (TXV) requires using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to verify a leak-free system. The first step entails removing the i/p retainer before removing the insulation from the txv. The hvac line clamp requires removal of both its screw and clamp. Start by removing the txv to Evaporator bolts followed by the txv line bracket before completely detaching the txv from the Evaporator core by pushing it straight out from the a/c lines. Apply grease to the o-rings before putting the Evaporator core lines inside the txv. First completely insert the txv onto the Evaporator core and then install the txv line bracket and the txv to Evaporator bolts while torquing them to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Install the hvac line clamp and tighten it by using the hvac line clamp screw set to 1 n.m torque which equals 8 lb in. Reinstall the i/p retainer along with insulation that must cover both a/c lines and txv.
