• Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2005 Cadillac CTS?

  A: Begin by disassembling the HVAC module and afterward remove the insulation from the TXV and HVAC line clamp screw and the HVAC line clamp. Begin by taking the bolts off from the TXV to evaporator section and then separate the TXV line bracket. Finally slide the TXV forward from the evaporator core to disconnect it from the A/C system. First disconnect the thermistor electrical connector before separating the HVAC module to access and extract the thermistor from the evaporator core and finally remove the evaporator core. Initial steps for installation start with adding refrigerant oil while installing new evaporator core seals prior to placing the evaporator core correctly into position. Apply the thermistor at its original placement when done then join the HVAC module components while tightening screws to 1 N.m (8 lb in). After the clips are installed you must connect the thermistor electrical interface before applying oil to the A/C lines for their insertion into the TXV. Push the TXV onto the evaporator core until it is fully positioned before adding the TXV line bracket and the TXV to evaporator bolts with torque at 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Add the HVAC line clamp first before installing the screw by setting it to 1 N.m (8 lb in). After that, apply insulation to all components and reinstall the HVAC module.
