2004 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2004 Cadillac CTS?
A: The replacement process of the evaporator core starts with HVAC module assembly removal and subsequent insulation removal from the TXV valve. The replacement process starts by unfastening the HVAC line clamp screw and clamp before removing the TXV to evaporator bolts and the TXV line bracket. Using tools extract the TXV out from its position through the evaporator core and then discard it. First detach the case with unscrewing and unclipping then disconnect the thermistor electrical connector to separate the HVAC module. The technician should first remove the thermistor from the evaporator core prior to extracting the evaporator core itself. Before reinstalling the evaporator core position you must add refrigerant oil and put new evaporator core seals to the evaporator. Insert the thermistor to its original position before joining the HVAC module pieces together while tightening the case screws to 1 N.m (8 lb in). You should install the clips that maintain case assembly before connecting the thermistor electrical connector. Apply refrigerant oil to the A/C lines and put them into the TXV before inserting the TXV carefully onto the evaporator core until proper positioning. Secure the TXV to evaporator bolts by using the TXV line bracket and tighten each bolt to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in). Install the HVAC line clamp along with screw while tightening the fastener to 1 N.m (8 lb in). After that, secure the insulation over the lines and TXV before reinstalling the HVAC module.
