2004 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Condenser in an HVAC System (CZ3) on 2004 Cadillac CTS?
A: In order to replace the condenser (CZ3), start by recovering the refrigerant. Next, unbolt the radiator support brackets, the upper condenser mounting and the auxiliary cooling fan. Disconnect the liquid line by removing the bolt at the condenser, and ensure you pull the line straight out to protect the o-ring, and then disconnect the discharge hose at the condenser, and again pull it straight out to protect the o-ring. Once you remove the condenser, add a refrigerant oil when arranging a new condenser and the auxiliary cooling fan. Apply a layer of refrigerant oil onto the o-ring before attaching discharge hose to the condenser, and install the discharge hose bolt and tighten 5.4 n.m (48 lb in). Repeat the lubrication process for the o-ring and then connect the liquid line to the condenser and secure the liquid with the condenser line bolt which is to be tightened to 5.4 n.m (48lb in.). Mount the air deflector and upper bolts of the condenser, doing them up tight to 3.9 n.m (35 lb in) and rad support brackets. Finally evacuate and recharge the system, and do a leak test on all fittings of the replaced or re installed components with the halogen leak detector ( J 39400-A).
