2003 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser with RPO Code MAE on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: When replacing the condenser with rpo code mae, start by recovering the refrigerant. Use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to leak test all the fittings of the repaired or reinstalled components. Second, take out the radiator support brackets, upper condenser bolts, and air deflector. Detach the hose from Power Steering Cooler, then drop the bolt that supports the upper condenser line & pull it out straight to prevent o-ring damage. Proceed to remove the lower line bolt and pull the line straight out again to protect the o-ring and the lower condenser mounting bolts for removal of the condenser. For installation, add refrigerant oil and install condenser secured by using the lower bolt of condenser mounting to be tightened to 3.9 n.m (35 lb in). Lubricate o-ring with refrigerant oil before connecting discharge hose to condenser and install discharge hose bolt with tightening up to 5.4 n.m (48 lb in). Attach the power steering lines to hoses, lubricate the o-ring one more time and connect the condenser inlet hose to the condenser, and fasten with the condenser hose bolt which should be tightened to 5.4 n.m (48 lb in). Make sure side seals are intact and correctly held in place around the pipes, attach the air deflector and upper condenser bolting the mounting bolts to 3.9 n. M(35 lb in). Lastly, mount the upper radiator supports, and do the evacuation and recharging of the a/c system.
