2005 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace an A/C Condenser in an HVAC System (MAE) on 2005 Cadillac CTS?
A: The process to replace the condenser begins with careful refrigerant recovery. Start by taking out the radiator support brackets and moving on to remove upper condenser bolts then air deflector. Unplug the Power Steering Cooler hose before using tooling to unscrew and remove the discharge hose bolt and the hose itself including the o-ring seal for disposal. Move on to next step by taking out both the condenser tube bolt and condenser tube while disposing of the o-ring seal. Remove the lower mounting bolts of the condenser before extracting it from the vehicle. Place refrigerant oil into the system and then install the new condenser by tightening lower mounting bolts to 3.9 n.m (35 lb in). Before installing the condenser tube on the condenser, apply refrigerant oil to the o-ring then fasten the condenser tube bolt with a torque of 5.4 n.m (48 lb in). Reconnect the power steering lines to the hoses then reapply refrigerant oil to the o-ring before joining the discharge hose with the condenser, completing the operation with discharge hose bolt torqued to 5.4 n.m (48 lb in). Reinstall the air deflector followed by the upper condenser mounting bolts and tighten them to 3.9 n.m (35 lb in) torque. You should finish the repair by mounting the upper radiator supports then checking for a/c system leaks through the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) after system evacuation and recharging.
