2005 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2005 Cadillac CTS?
A: The replacement process requires raising the vehicle before removing the tire and wheel and then performing hub and bearing removal. First use the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to detach the tie rod from the Steering Knuckle after removing the outer tie rod to knuckle retaining nut. You need to remove the lower stabilizer shaft link retaining nut and detach the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. The procedure continues by taking out the Steering Knuckle pinch bolt which removes the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle. Installing the Ball Joint remover (J 43631) allows you to remove the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle after first discarding the retaining nut via removal. Separate the Steering Knuckle from its lower Ball Joint stud position. Place the Steering Knuckle onto the lower Ball Joint stud before installing a new lower Ball Joint retaining nut that should be torqued to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) with a following 210-degree turn. First install the upper Control Arm to the Steering Knuckle before tightening the pinch bolt and nut to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Install the stabilizer shaft link to the lower Control Arm after applying thread locker 242 or equivalent to the threads but tighten the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reattach the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle before installing your retaining nut then tightening it to 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.). The last step includes installing the wheel bearing/hub and tire and wheel before letting the vehicle rest back on the floor.
