  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in the rear suspension on 2006 Cadillac CTS?
    A: In order to have the rear suspension knuckle replaced, it is time to lift and support the vehicle, remove the tire and wheel and subsequently the rear brake rotor. Throw the wheel driveshaft nut away, unravel the ABS Sensor electrical connector from both the connector and the backing plate. Make use of the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts, and remove the bracket from the knuckle. Then remove the upper Ball Joint mounting nut and install j 43631 onto the ball stud and separate ball stud from the knuckle with j 43631. Support the lower Control Arm with a proper jack, then the lower shock mounting bolt, lower Control Arm to knuckle mounting bolt, and nut, trailing arm to knuckle mounting bolt, and the adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt should be released. Set j 42129 to the wheel bearing/hub then unhook the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub, observe that the Wheel Hub remover has to be used in a full disengagement. Remove the knuckle from the vehicle and then the wheel bearing/hub bolts and remove knuckle and backing plate from wheel bearing/hub. For installation the knuckle and backing plate is attached to the wheel bearing/hub and secured, using mounting bolts tightened at 125 n.m (92 lb ft). Mount the knuckle on the vehicle, then loosely anchor all fasteners, then attach adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt, trailing arm to knuckle mounting bolt and nut, lower shock mounting bolt, and lower Control Arm to knuckle mounting bolt. Attach the upper Ball Joint to the knuckle and seat upper Ball Joint mounting nut, tightening nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) plus 210 degree turn. Turn to knuckle bolt the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt by 175 n.m (129 lb ft), lower shock mounting bolt by 150 n.m (111 lb ft), trailing arm to knuckle bolt and nut by 175 n.m (129 lb ft), adjustment link to knuckle bolt by 175 n.m (129 lb ft), parking brake cable bracket bolts by 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Remove the jack, reattach back the ABS Sensor electrical connectors, install the new wheel drive shaft nut (tightened to 160 N.m (118 lb ft)), install the brake rotor, a tire and a wheel to lower the vehicle.
