  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2007 Cadillac CTS?
    A: To replace the Steering Knuckle firstly, raise and support up the vehicle, which is followed by removal of tire and wheel progressively the wheel bearing/hub. Next, after you have removed the outer tie rod to Steering Knuckle retaining nut, use the universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) to unlink the tie rod from the Steering Knuckle. Unscrew the lower stabilizer shaft link retaining nut and remove the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. Begin with the removal of the upper Control Arm to Steering Knuckle pinch bolt and decompose the upper Control Arm from Steering Knuckle. Take off the lower Ball Joint holding nut and throw it away then, use the Ball Joint remover (J 43631) to detach the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle and take the Steering Knuckle off the bottom of the Ball Joint stud. For installation, the Steering Knuckle should be positioned on the lower Ball Joint stud and a new lower Ball Joint retaining nut should be installed, wrench down to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) and then an additional 210-degree turn. Mount the upper Control Arm to the Steering Knuckle and fasten it using the pinch bolt and nut, tightening the nut to 60 n.m (44 lb ft). A threadlocker 242 or equivalent should be applied to the threads of the stabilizer shaft link, the stabilizer shaft link should be attached to the lower Control Arm, the low end Control Arm retention nut should be installed and tighten the nut to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Mount the outer tie rod onto the Steering Knuckle, a apply the retaining nut, and tighten it to 75 n.m (55 lb ft). Finally, replace the wheel bearing/hub, the tire and wheel, and bring the vehicle back to the ground level.
