- Q: How to Replace Coil Springs and Shock Absorber on 2006 Cadillac CTS?A: Vehicle elevation and support are necessary before spring and shock component replacement processes start. Avoid damaging the coil spring protective layer since this will lower its durability. After removing the wheel and tire you should extract the shock module from the vehicle. Put the shock module inside the spring compressor while marking both the upper Control Arm assembly and insulator for later installation purposes. Push down the forcing screw of the spring compressor to achieve free movement of the shock absorber. Disconnect the upper retaining nut of the shock absorber then extract it from the shock module. Remove the upper mounting plate and coil spring by turning the compressor forcing screw until you can extract the upper mounting plate while the spring compressor allows you to take out the upper Control Arm Bracket assembly together with the insulator. Install the spring compressor by placing the coil spring followed by the insulator and upper Control Arm Bracket assembly along with the shock absorber, while checking that all noticeable marks remain aligned and the upper Control Arm Bracket alignment pins point exactly to 90 degrees with shock absorber lower mounting holes. Install the shock absorber retaining nut followed by using the spring compressor forcing screw to compress the coil spring again then tighten the retaining nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Put the shock module into the positioning slot of the spring compressor before reinstalling it on the vehicle. Complete the procedure by putting back the tire and wheel followed by lowering the vehicle down.
