- Q: How to Service and Repair Front Coil Springs on Cadillac CTS?A:For servicing and repairing the front suspension coil spring, start raising and supporting the vehicle, then take out its tire and wheel. Then disconnect the shock module from the vehicle and mount it to the spring compressor. Mark the upper Control Arm assembly and insulator as well as the position for proper installation to ensure that the spring is compressed when the shock absorber is free to move. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw until the coil spring is compressed and then remove the shock absorber upper retaining nut and shake off the shock absorber from the shock module. Loosen the compressor forcing screw until the upper mounting plate and coil spring but find it necessary to remove the upper Control Arm bracket assembly, insulator, and coil spring from the spring compressor. For installation, assure that the end of the upper Control Arm bracket of the alignment pin is at right angles with shock absorber lower mount holes. Mount the coil spring, insulator, upper Control Arm bracket assembly and shock absorber in the spring compressor and bring all marks to the original position created during the disassembly procedure. Compress the coil spring by rotating the spring compressor forcing screw, then put the shock absorber retaining nut and tighten to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Next, remove the shock module from the spring compressor and install it back onto the vehicle and tire and wheel and then lower the vehicle.
