- Q: How to replace the rear coil springs, insulator, and jounce bumper on 2008 Cadillac CTS?A: Begin replacing the rear spring and jounce bumper and insulator by elevating and securing the vehicle. Start by removing the tire along with the wheel. Then unfasten the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm. Moving forward with the procedure means first removing the trailing arm bolt that anchors at the knuckle followed by removing the adjustable link bolt from the knuckle. The removal of the lower Control Arm Bolt from the frame should not occur because doing so will provide adequate movement for coil spring and associated component removal. To allow the wheel drive shaft to move freely through the knuckle you must loosen the lower Control Arm's frame-mounted nut and bolt yet keep the drive shaft intact. First detach the wheel drive shaft from its position on the knuckle after taking out the lower shock absorber bolt from the same component. Fasten a transmission jack under the lower Control Arm before removing the bolt which attaches the arm to the knuckle. The knuckle should be moved outward and upward by two people before lowering a transmission jack stand to extract the lower arm, coil spring, insulator, and jounce bumper. Secure the installation by positioning the coil spring , insulator , and jounce bumper then manually lift the lower Control Arm through the transmission jack stand. Every bolt needs to stay loose until you reach final torque specifications during suspension component alignment. Install the lower Control Arm onto the knuckle by yourself with assistance from others and then use the lower Control Arm Bolt for installation. Insert the trailing arm bolt in the knuckle after placing the adjustable link bolt and lower shock absorber bolt into the knuckle. Install the stabilizer shaft link onto the lower Control Arm then tighten the wheel drive shaft nut while reinstalling tire and wheel assembly. After support removal lower the vehicle down while checking rear suspension alignment.
