• Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: To replace the left Timing Chain, the necessary tools involved are; camshaft holding tool ( J 44212). First, remove the right Timing Chain and detach it from the assembly, and then remove the left side Timing Chain Tensioner. Finally, remove the left side camshaft cover. Make sure that both camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the vertical top of their rotation, then place the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) over the camshafts. Using an open end wrench on the hex cast into the camshaft stops the rotation while working on removing the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt. Slide the left intake camshaft sprocket off the camshaft and remove the left Timing Chain from the camshaft sprocket from the teeth then lift the sprocket chain of the camshaft sprocket teeth from the camshaft intermediate drawing shaft sprocket teeth and remove it from the engine. Clean and check the camshaft timing drive parts before installing a new left Timing Chain that must be slid down through the left cylinder head and set on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket. Route the chain through the inner row of teeth of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft, pass the chain around this for the left intake chain sprocket, then install it on the cam to make the notch li at the sprocket engage the intake cam pin. While performing the sake, you should avoid rotation of the camshaft sprocket bolt tightening with an open-end wrench to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Tighten, remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44212), install the left camshaft cover, then install the left Timing Chain Tensioner, then install the right Timing Chain.
