• Q: How to replace the Rocker Shaft Spring Kit and Valve Stem Oil Seal on the left side on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: Start the job by taking off left camshafts and putting up and sustaining the vehicle before you do valve stem oil seal and valve spring work on the left side. You should first disconnect the engine Oil Pan brace from the transaxle case and then take off the torque converter cover. Fit the flywheel holder part j44214 and position the vehicle down. Prepare the Spark Plug hole area for cleanliness then take out the Spark Plug from the cylinder block undergoing work. Press the air compressor tool j 44211 into the Spark Plug hole while inserting j 39313 inside to block the valve. Screw the valve spring compressor (J 44211) arm and swivel nut onto the valve stud until you can reach the valve locks with them. First remove the valve locks with a magnet then open the swivel nut to swing the tool arm away while taking out the valve spring retainer and valve spring. Use valve stem seal removal and installation tool j 38820 to grasp and uninstall the old seal before discarding it and examining the valve spring. Place clean engine oil inside the valve stem and seal before placing a seal protector on top. Install the new valve stem seal with the valve stem seal remover and installer tool (J 38820). Squeeze the valve spring compressor (J 44211) arm onto the valve spring parts while adjusting its swivel nut only enough to reach the valve locks. Insert the valve locks into position through the on-vehicle valve retainer remover/installer tool (J 43059) and then detach the swivel nut and arm of the valve spring compressor tool (J 44211). Rephrase this state for all valve services. After completing all valves under maintenance apply pressure relief then take off the Spark Plug port adapter (J 39313) from its fixed position. Put the Spark Plug in the valve spring compressor base plate and install it for service. Once all cylinders are worked on put back the left camshafts then hoist the vehicle and uninstall the flywheel holder part j 44214. Position the torque converter cover in place then fix the Oil Pan onto its transaxle fixture using 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) torque and return the car to the ground.
