- Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2005 Cadillac DeVille?A: The required tools for right Camshaft replacement include en 46327 (Timing Chain Retention Tool) and j 45059 (Angle Meter) and j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool). Proceed with the removal of the right Camshaft cover along with the Camshaft Position Sensor. Position the Crankshaft at tdc of the #1 compression stroke cylinder while placing both drive pins of the Camshaft sprocket at their uppermost position. Before proceeding install tool j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) above the camshafts while you mark the Timing Chain links that sit near the Camshaft sprocket timing marks. Install the en 46327 (Timing Chain Retention Tool) onto the engine while positioning its bottom retention tool against the right exhaust Camshaft sprocket and chain near the cylinder head before inserting the hook end into a secondary chain link. Regulate the wing nut to hit the retention tool block but do not tighten it before repeating the procedure for the top retention tool beside the right intake Camshaft sprocket and chain. Use the provided wing nuts to alternate tightening movements for securing both chains. A wide open wrench secures Camshaft rotation to remove the Camshaft sprocket bolts before the complete sprocket extraction. One should open the Camshaft bearing cap bolts slowly to unlock valve spring pressure before removing the bearing caps and j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) to extract both camshafts and Camshaft followers. The repair technician should clean and inspect camshafts and apply lubricant gm p/n 12345001 or equivalent to both the roller pivot pocket and valve slot areas of the Camshaft followers. Install the Camshaft followers in proper position onto each valve tip as well as stationary hydraulic lash adjusters (SHLA). Apply lubricant on top of cleaning the Camshaft carriers and lubricate both Camshaft carriers and camshafts and their associated journals. Set the Camshaft inside its carriers so the sprocket drive pins rest at the upper sector of their rotation while lining up with the marks on the Camshaft bearing caps. Place the Camshaft bearing caps after identifying the marks while tightening bolts to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) followed by an extra 30 degrees setting using j 45059 (Angle Meter). Eliminate the j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) to position the camshafts while their sprockets drive pins engage the paint markings originally created before disassembly. The procedure continues with tightening the Camshaft sprocket bolts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Then use the en 46327 (Timing Chain Retention Tool) together with the j 44212 (Camshaft Holding Tool) for removal before reinstalling the Camshaft Position Sensor and the right Camshaft cover.
