2005 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2005 Cadillac STS?
A: The replacement of an Evaporator core starts with removing the hvac module assembly. Start by discarding insulation material from the thermal expansion valve (TXV) and subsequently remove the hvac line clamp screw together with its clamp. First remove the txv to Evaporator bolts before proceeding with the txv line bracket. Then extract the txv from its core by pulling it directly off from the a/c lines. The technician should disconnect each o-ring and eliminate the thermistor electrical connector and lh with auxiliary temperature actuator electrical connectors from the hvac module retainer before moving the harness. Start by removing the front duct from the hvac module through retainer release then unscrew the case to separate the unit for evacuating the Evaporator core. First install the refrigerant oil before you can place the Evaporator core precisely by gently fitting it in place while verifying smooth operation between the temperature controls and their designated slots in the hvac module. The case halves need screws that measure 1 n.m (8 lb in) to secure them before installing the front duct while verifying retainer engagement. The wire harness installation requires users to position the harness properly then connect the electrical connectors in this sequence: first lh and auxiliary temperature actuators and finally the thermistor actuator. Plug the a/c lines into the txv before sliding the txv onto the Evaporator core with care until it properly sits. Install new o-rings on these components before the installation process. The txv line bracket must be installed while you tighten the Evaporator bolts to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Finish the installation by attaching the hvac clamp with its screw tightened to 1 n.m (8 lb in). After that, add insulation to the lines and txv before putting back the hvac module.
