2005 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 Cadillac STS?
A: The halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) must be used first to check for leaks prior to thermal expansion valve (TXV) replacement. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) retainer followed by the insulation from the txv while disposing of the previous insulation. Remove the hvac line clamp screw before separating the hvac line clamp. Proceed to take off the bolts that connect the txv to the Evaporator. Next, detach the txv line bracket before extracting the txv straight out from the Evaporator core region to disconnect it from the a/c lines. After ring lubrication place the a/c lines inside the txv before seating the txv completely onto the Evaporator core. Relocate the txv line bracket and use bolts to secure the txv on the Evaporator and tighten them to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). The hvac line clamp needs to be reinstalled followed by tightening the hvac line clamp screw to reach 1 n.m (8 lb in). Proceed with installing new insulation onto lines and txv before you return the i/p retainer in place.
