2006 Cadillac STS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2006 Cadillac STS?
A: A halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) must be used as the first step to check for leaks before txv replacement. The first step includes taking out the instrument panel (I/P) carrier while also removing the insulation from the txv before discarding the old insulation material. Both screws holding the hvac line clamp need to be removed first. Start by removing the txv from the Evaporator using the bolts followed by the txv line bracket detachment. The txv requires a careful extraction from its position between a/c lines before removal. After applying lubricant to the o-rings the a/c lines must be inserted into the txv. Position the txv onto the Evaporator until it reaches complete seating then add the txv line bracket and bolt it in place at 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). The hvac line clamp becomes attached along with a 1 n.m (8 lb in) screw torquing of the hvac line clamp screw. The last step includes covering the lines and txv with new insulation before putting back the instrument panel carrier.
