• Q: How to replace the A/C Expansion Valve on 2007 Cadillac STS?

  A: The first step to replace the thermal expansion valve (TXV) requires a check for leaks with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). Start the process by taking out the instrument panel carrier (I/P) together with the thermal expansion valve insulation before discarding both items. The process begins by unfastening both the hvac line clamp screw together with the clamp before proceeding with txv bolt removal from the Evaporator. Next the txv line bracket needs removal before extracting the txv from the Evaporator core directly through the a/c lines. Place lubricant on the o-rings before putting the a/c lines into the txv and proceeding with a safe txv installation onto the Evaporator core until full seat. Reinstall both the txv line bracket before using bolts to fix the txv onto the Evaporator while tightening them to 3.5 n.m (31 lb in). Reposition the hvac line clamp followed by the hvac line clamp screw and tighten it to 1 n.m (8 lb in). The instrument panel carrier should be reinstalled after installing fresh insulation materials on both lines and txv.
