• Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a standard cooling system on 2005 Cadillac STS?

  A: To replace the condenser on a standard cooling system then after fixing the installation, first Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) be used to leak test the fittings. Start by recovering the refrigerant and then lift and jack up the vehicle. After removing the front air deflector retainers, remove the front air deflector then the lower air baffle push pin retainers, you can also remove the air grab tunnels. Then remove the condenser upper bracket bolts and the mounting bolts at the lower portion of the condenser, and then take out the bolt at the condenser discharge line and remove the discharge line at the condenser and discard the O-ring. Go ahead and delete the condenser tube bolt and disengage the condenser tube from the condenser and discard the O-ring as well. Unsecure the power steering cooler line to condenser retaining bolts and pull the condenser out. If replacing with a new condenser, then add the specified volume of PAG oil direct to it before installation. Mount the condenser and attach it to the power steering cooler line to condenser retaining bolts and tighten them up to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Replace the new O-ring to the condenser tube, attach the condenser, and fit the condenser tube bolt and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Replace the new O ring to the discharge line, and screw it to the condenser, and fix using the discharge line bolt, tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in). Mount the lower condenser mounting bolts, tighten them to 5.4 N.m (48 lb in), then the upper bracket bolts, which are also to be tightened to 5.4 N.m (48 lb in). Replace the lower air baffle push pin retainers, the front air deflector, and the front air deflector retainers. Lower the vehicle, install the power steering cooler mounting bolts, and lastly, evacuate as well as re-pressurize the air conditioning system.
