• Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a heavy-duty cooling system on 2005 Cadillac STS?

  A: To change a heavy-duty cooling system' condenser, start by recovering the refrigerant. Next, unfasten the Power Steering Cooler mounting bolts and lift and secure the vehicle. Go ahead and take off the front air deflector retainers and the front air deflector as well as the lower air baffle push pin retainers. Take off the condenser upper bracket bolts and the lower mounting ones, and remove the discharge line bolt and disconnect the discharge line from the condenser and discard the o-ring. Remove the condenser tube bolt and disconnect the condenser tube from the condenser and throw the o-ring also. Move the Power Steering Cooler to a side clear enough for condenser removal, thereafter remove the condenser. In case a new condenser has to be installed, add the required amount of pag oil into it prior to its installation. Replace the position of the Power Steering Cooler and install a new o-ring to a condenser tube, and connect it to the condenser by securing it with the condenser tube bolt and tightening it to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Replace the other end of the discharge line with a new o-ring and join it to the condenser, tighten it with the discharge line bolt to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Mount the condenser lower bolts and tighten to 5.4 (N.m) (48 lb in), and then mount the condenser upper brackets bolts with the same torque. Replace the lower air baffle push pin retainers, the front air deflector and the front air deflector retainers. Lower the vehicle and install Power Steering Cooler mounting bolts. Finally, evacuate and recharge the a/c system and conduct a test of leakage in the fittings for the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
