2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel rail assembly on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: The first step to replace the Fuel Rail assembly requires relieving fuel system pressure. Commence by taking away the air cleaner outlet resonator and vent pipe from the Fuel Pressure Regulator and engine fuel supply along with return pipes. The procedure starts with removing the Fuel Pressure Regulator bolt followed by removing both the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the connecting bolt. The harness connectors of the fuel injectors must be disconnected before removing the studs which secure the Fuel Rail assembly. Take care while removing the Fuel Rail assembly because it can cause damage to fuel injectors by affecting either their electrical connector terminals or spray tips. The procedure to remove the Fuel Rail requires back and upward pull to detach fuel injectors from the cylinder head ports before rotating the rail downward for complete removal. Take out the fuel injectors from their positions inside the Fuel Rail. New Fuel Injector insulator cups require installation when they are removed during the procedure. When installing fuel injectors on the Fuel Rail people must use new lower o-rings and apply lubricant to injector tip o-rings before putting them into the Intake Manifold. To successfully install fuel injectors you should lengthen them down before placing them into ports within the cylinder head while you achieve alignment by rotating the Fuel Rail ahead before proceeding with safe injector insertion. Secure the Fuel Rail attaching studs at a torques setting of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Connect the Fuel Injector harnesses to their ports securely and install the fuel supply pipes as well as return pipes after installing the Fuel Pressure Regulator with its bolt fastened at 10 n.m (89 lb in). The vent pipe linkage to the Fuel Pressure Regulator must be completed while the air cleaner outlet resonator is put back in place, then finish by attaching the negative Battery Cable. Locate fuel leaks by enabling the ignition switch when the engine remains off for 2 seconds then turning it off for 10 seconds after which re-enable the ignition to examine for leaks.
