2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the transmission pan on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: In order to change the Oil Pan, raise and support the vehicle and place drain pan under the transaxle Oil Pan. Before removing the Oil Pan bolts, be careful not to damage the sealing surfaces to avoid oil leaks. Take out the bolts in the front and in the sides, loosen the rear ones around 4 turns. Tap often and gently the Oil Pan using a rubber mallet to let the fluid drain then remove the remaining bolts and remove the Oil Pan together with the gasket. Clean and close inspect the Oil Pan to ensure that there are no dents and damage, allow it to be dry before installation. Change a new Oil Pan gasket if the sealing ribs are damaged and attach the Oil Pan, replacing the bottom pan if needed. Fit the Oil Pan attaching bolts and tighten them to 14 nm (124 inch lbs.). Lower the vehicle, add transmission fluid, and check the level of the fluid as well as examine Oil Pan gasket for leaks.
