2005 Chevrolet Classic Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) for Bank 1 on 2005 Chevrolet Classic?
A: The starting point for heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) bank 1 replacement consists of removing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield. The Oxygen Sensor harness connector must be disconnected first before removing the sensor. Perform this step with extreme care to avoid damaging both the permanently fixed pigtail and connector because this could lead to sensor performance issues. The in-line connector together with the louvered end should be inspected to remove all signs of deposit or fluid before tightening. Use only the appropriate amount of force to prevent damaging the Exhaust Manifold/pipe threads. The sensor proves hard to remove when the engine remains beneath 48°c (120 °F). When installing an Oxygen Sensor, threads need a coating of specialized liquid graphite anti-seize compound containing glass beads to make future removal easier. Screw in the Oxygen Sensor until torque reaches 30 n.m (22 lb ft) before reattaching the Oxygen Sensor harness and reinstalling the Exhaust Manifold heat shield.
