2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the coolant reservoir on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: Draining the cooling system occurs as the first step during coolant reservoir replacement. Use Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to relocate the coolant reservoir inlet hose clamp before removing the coolant reservoir inlet hose. Start by taking out the underhood junction block bracket bolts (1, 2) and its two bracket nuts. Pull the underhood junction block bracket away from the coolant reservoir before you take out its retaining nut. Now that the coolant reservoir is lifted use Constant Force Clamp Pliers (SA9111E) to adjust the coolant reservoir outlet hose clamp and disconnect the coolant reservoir outlet hose. Cut the electrical connection for the coolant level sensor then unplug the coolant reservoir. Place the coolant reservoir in position during installation and connect its electrical coolant sensor connector. Raise the coolant reservoir and implement the coolant reservoir outlet hose through hose clamp installation using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185). Screw the coolant reservoir nut in place then torque it to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Position the underhood junction block bracket correctly then install its bracket nuts (1, 2) while tightening them to 10 Nm (88 inch lbs.). Fits the underhood junction block bracket bolt and torques it to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). After fitting the coolant reservoir inlet hose to its location you must use Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to reposition the hose clamp before you complete the cooling system fill process.
