How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?

Begin engine oil and filter replacement work by lifting and supporting the vehicle. Position a drain pan beneath the oil Drain Plug then unscrew the oil pan Drain Plug. An open-end wrench should never touch the hex pattern on top of the Oil Filter cap. The correct tool for removing the Oil Filter cap with filter is either a 32 mm (1 1/4 inch) socket or an Oil Filter wrench which fits onto the outside diameter of the filter cap. Pull off the filter from the cap opening before adding the new filter back onto the rim while securing the Oil Filter cap with the filter in place. Carefully avoid excessive torque on the Oil Filter cap since it could result in damage leading to oil leakages. Secure the cap to a full thread position maintaining 25 nm torque setting (18 ft. Lb). Reinstall the oil pan Drain Plug and apply torque to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Set the vehicle at ground level while filling the engine with oil.
