2005 Chevrolet Corvette Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: A repair or service of automatic transmission fluid and filter requires transmission assembling lubricant transjel(tm) (J 36850) among necessary tools. Begin the procedure with vehicle support then position a drain pan under the transmission unit. Clean the surroundings where the transmission check/fill plug resides to enable fluid drainage before extraction. After supporting the transmission Oil Pan you should remove all Oil Pan bolts by reinstalling the fluid check/fill plug in an unstable manner. Apply a rubber mallet for light tapping on the Oil Pan to make it loose before the pan removal that includes fluid drainage. Before removing the filter observe its position then pull it firmly downward while twisting it. Use pliers to handle the filter seal before its removal. Check the transmission fluid together with the filter for signs of clutch material or metal particles that indicate wear and tear. Before installation remove all old gasket material from transmission case and Oil Pan surfaces then clean them with solvent before allowing them to air dry naturally. Dribble a limited amount of transmission assembling lubricant (J 36850) onto the new filter seal before inserting it inside the transmission case while softly tapping it with an appropriate socket size. Fit the new filter per the specified installation position before verifying that Oil Pan bolts and washers have their conical washers oriented correctly. Washers and bolts will be reused as long as they have retained their original orientation but new parts should be used in all other cases. You must apply the new Oil Pan gasket over its sealing surface before placing the Oil Pan onto the transmission case while providing support to it. Tighten the transmission Oil Pan bolts at equal intervals with a torque of 11 nm which equals 97 inch lbs. Place the transmission check plug aside then insert dexron(r)-iii automatic transmission fluid into the system until fluid leaks from the entry point before securing the check plug gently by hand. Check the fill level until it reaches the specified level and finally verify that the check/fill plug reaches 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Complete by inspecting the Oil Pan gasket for any signs of leakage.
