2005 Chevrolet Corvette Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step to changing the right Exhaust Manifold requires removal of the engine sight cover together with spark plugs and bank 2 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor followed by removal of the oil level indicator and tube assembly. The next step is to lift the vehicle while removing the Catalytic Converter before lowering it to access the Exhaust Manifold mounting nuts. The next step requires disconnecting the heat shield attached to the Exhaust Manifold before removing the manifold together with its gasket. The installation process requires attention to cleanup of Exhaust Manifold bolt hole threads on the Cylinder Head to prevent the presence of debris. You should apply the Exhaust Manifold heat shield followed by tightening all bolts to 9 nm according to torque specifications (80 inch lbs.). After lifting the vehicle repeat the procedure while keeping the clamp loose to achieve correct placement of the Exhaust Manifold and gasket at the Cylinder Head. After attaching the Catalytic Converter to the intermediate pipe you should lower the vehicle. The Exhaust Manifold needs only 2 bolts to secure itself and the gasket together but requires an application of 5 mm (0.2 inch) threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the bolts' threads. Install the Exhaust Manifold bolts by starting with the center two bolts then alternating between sides and first tightening them to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) before tightening all bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Follow the same alternating side-pattern. The service sequence now includes installing the bank 2 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor after putting back the oil level indicator plus tube assembly and spark plugs and engine sight cover. After another vehicle lift the technicians will mount the Catalytic Converter to the Exhaust Manifold using nuts which should be tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) they will also tighten the Catalytic Converter exhaust clamp to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) before performing the vehicle descent.
