2004 Chevrolet Corvette Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right exhaust manifold on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The right Exhaust Manifold replacement process starts by taking off the fuel rail cover followed by elevating the vehicle. The first step involves removing the Exhaust Manifold nuts and the connector position assurance (CPA) lock and unconnecting the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector before extracting the Oxygen Sensor. Begin by first unclamping the hose at the right check valve and afterward removing the secondary air injection (AIR) pipe hose spanning from the right check valve. Cut the rear air pipe bolt of the left Cylinder Head while keeping it in place before removing the bolts securing the air pipe. Tilt the air pipe into position. At this point discard the old air pipe gasket and detach the oil level indicator tube alongside ignition coil bracket studs and ignition coil bracket. Exhaust Manifold bolts and spark plugs should be extracted first before proceeding to remove the Exhaust Manifold together with its gasket and discarding both components. Drilling the Exhaust Manifold heat shield naturally requires removal of both bolts as well as the heat shield itself. Brittle, heat-resistant materials allow installation only when installing the Exhaust Manifold heat shield and bolts at 9 nm (80 inch lbs). Threadlock gm p/n 12345493 or equivalent should be applied to a 5 mm (0.2 inch) wide band of thread on the Exhaust Manifold bolts before installing the Exhaust Manifold with a new gasket. Install the Exhaust Manifold bolts in two stages by starting with the center pair then working from side to side and ultimately tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) with the same alternating pattern. After bending down the front section of the Exhaust Manifold gasket at the right Cylinder Head, install the ignition coil bracket while applying threadlock gm p/n 12345382 (or Canadian P/N 10953489) to the bracket studs before tightening them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). The installation process includes reattaching spark plugs and the oil level indicator tube with an arrangement that lets the air pipe bracket fit behind the bolt at the left Cylinder Head. The first step involves installing the air pipe with check valve while using a new gasket before tightening the bolts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Subsequently tighten the rear left Cylinder Head air pipe bolt. Fasten the air pipe hose to the right check valve by using the hose clamp. Recover the vehicle for another installation procedure where you should use gm p/n 12377953 or equivalent anti-seize compound to apply onto the Oxygen Sensor threads before installing the sensor tightly to 42 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). After connecting the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector you should install cpa lock and the Exhaust Manifold nuts and torque them to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle after which you can replace the fuel rail cover.
