- Q: How to replace the alternator bracket on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?A: In order to change the generator bracket, pull off the negative Battery Cable and rotate Drive Belt tensioner counter clockwise and remove the belt from the accessories. Then get rid of the generator, then the Drive Belt tensioner bolt, followed by the Drive Belt tensioner. Then proceed to remove the Drive Belt idler pulley bolt and idler pulley, take out the generator bracket bolts and the generator bracket. For installation, installation shall begin by installation of the generator bracket with the bolts which shall be fastened sequentially with 50 n.m (37lb ft). Then, install the Drive Belt tensioner and its bolt, tighten up to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). After that, install the Drive Belt idler pulley and bolt, tightening to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Reinstall the generator, rotate the Drive Belt tensioner in a counterclockwise direction, and apply the accessory Drive Belt going back and finally reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
