2005 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace an Evaporator Core on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process for an Evaporator core requires hvac module assembly detachment followed by lower center floor air outlet duct removal and upper center floor outlet duct screw removal until you can extract the upper duct from its location. The first step requires releasing the air inlet assembly screws before extracting the air inlet assembly followed by removal of the air temperature actuator screws and the actuator itself. Then continue by taking out the mode actuator screws before extracting the actuator. The heat stakes must be drilled from the mode valve assembly followed by removing screws and taking out the valve assembly. Drill out the heat stakes attached to the lower hvac module case before removing its screws to extract the component. The operation ends with removal of the thermal expansion valve screws and thermal expansion valve while discarding used sealing washers before Evaporator extraction. During new Evaporator installation add the specified pag® oil amount directly to the Evaporator followed by installing the Evaporator together with new sealing washers and the thermal expansion valve before tightening its screws to 7 n.m (62 lb in). The hvac module case installation should continue with the lower section and screws that need to be tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Mount the mode valve assembly pieces and screws while applying 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque followed by the mode actuator assembly that requires 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) torque when securing its screws. Complete installation by tightening the screws of the air temperature actuator to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) followed by the air inlet assembly screws that need to be tightened to the same torque value of 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). To finalize the process install the upper center floor air outlet duct and its screws and follow up by tightening to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in) while afterwards installing the lower center floor air outlet duct before concluding by placing the hvac module assembly.
