2005 Chevrolet Malibu Fan Shroud Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the cooling fan and fan shroud (LX9) on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The replacement process for cooling fan and shroud (LX9) requires the draining of coolant combined with left and right headlamp removal. After detaching the upper transmission oil cooler pipe from the Radiator position a rope for looping through the upper two condenser tabs which will be tied to the upper tie bar. Begin by removing the upper Radiator support bracket bolts before taking out the support brackets then bend upward the Fan Shroud tabs that rest on the Radiator clamp. Climb up the car then unfasten the lower Radiator air deflector retainers and eliminate both the lower Radiator air deflector. The right front fender liner must be taken out first and among the following steps should include right and left Radiator air deflector retainer and air deflector removal. Rotate the Radiator outlet hose clamp at the Radiator through the use of hose clamp pliers (J 38185) and disconnect the outlet hose from the Radiator. The process starts by disconnecting the fan wire harness connectors before removing lower Radiator support bracket bolts and lower Radiator support brackets. Empty a drain pan before taking out the transmission oil cooler pipes attachment nut which secures the connection between transmission and transmission oil cooler pipes and transmission oil cooler pipe clip from the Fan Shroud. You should remove the lower transmission oil cooler pipe from the Radiator and both transmission oil cooler pipes. You should first detach fan wire harness connectors then remove the Fan Shroud assembly. The installation sequence starts with fitting the Fan Shroud assembly and the transmission oil cooler pipes before installing both the lower transmission oil cooler pipe to the Radiator and the transmission oil cooler pipe clip to the Fan Shroud. Secure the transmission oil cooler pipes by tightening their attachment nut to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.). Insert the properly placed and bent Radiator air side seals into the channel of intake air splash shields to maintain smooth airflow. Attach the lower Radiator support brackets, secure bolts with a torque of 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.), after attaching the fan wire harness connectors and Radiator outlet hose to the Radiator and position the Radiator outlet hose clamp at the Radiator using hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Proceed with installing the left and right Radiator air deflectors together with their retainers before moving on to the right front fender liner and the lower Radiator air deflector accompanied by its retainers. Drop the vehicle until the Fan Shroud tabs fit into radius mounts before extracting the strand from condenser ties and upper support rods. Fasten the upper Radiator support brackets while making sure the upper bracket remains straight during tightening until bolts reach 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The procedure ends with mounting the upper transmission oil cooler pipe onto the Radiator before replacing right and left headlamps and coolant fluid addition and transmission fluid level inspection.
