- Q: How to replace the left rear parking brake cable on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?A: The first step to replace the left rear park brake cable begins with braking release and vehicle height elevation. First remove the tire and wheel from the rear position and then uninstall the propeller shaft. To proceed with the left rear park brake cable replacement you need to use the Park Brake Cable Release Tool (J37043) which will unfasten the cable from its retaining bracket and actuator. Upon removing the left rear park brake cable you must first detach it from its retaining clips and unfasten the retaining bolt. The Park Brake Cable Release Tool (J37043) enables you to disconnect the left rear park brake cable from its retaining bracket. The new left rear park brake cable must be directed into the retaining bracket before attaching it to the equalizer and park brake actuator while using needle-nose pliers or an equivalent tool to compress the return spring. Fasten the park brake cable with the retaining bolt while applying 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) torque to it then reinstall the left rear park brake cable into the retention clips. To finish the repair you should reinstall the propeller shaft while readjusting the left rear park brake if needed then install the rear tire with its wheel followed by lowering the vehicle.
