2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair a coil springs and shock absorber on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Begin the shock absorber servicing process by elevating and supporting the vehicle while removing its tire followed by the wheel. You must start by disconnecting the shock module from its vehicle position before removing its yoke to shock absorber pinch bolt and nut. A flat tool should be used to loosen the pin at the yoke of the shock module before removing it from the absorbing device. The installer should apply heater hose pieces to the shock module spring which will be contacted by the strut spring compressor (J45400) at the lower spring region before putting the shock module into the strut spring compressor (J45400). Continue turning the spring compressor forcing screw while checking to see that the shock absorber offers easy movement. The shock absorber upper retaining nut needs removal so you can pull the shock absorber out of the shock module. Release the compressor forcing screw to separate the upper mounting plate along with coil spring from the j45400 strut spring compressor unit. Begin installation by placing both coil spring and upper mounting plate onto the strut spring compressor (J45400). Then compress the spring with the tool again for further processing. Insert the shock absorber into the shock module then fasten it using the retaining nut at 45 nm torque setting (33 ft. Lbs.). Sever the shock module connection to the strut spring compressor (J45400) so you can remove the heater hose pieces near its spring. Screw the shock module yoke to its position on the shock absorber through the pinch bolt and the nut until achieving 70 nm torque (52 ft. Lbs. Torque). Reinstall the shock module onto the vehicle followed by installation of tire and wheel before lower the car.
