How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for the side impact on 2005 GMC Canyon?

To replace the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS), switch the SIR system first. It is very important not to hammer or jolt the SIS, and keep it well attached prior to the application of power in order to prevent SIR from deploying, or injuring anyone. First, take off the front door trim panel and peel away the rear end of the water deflector to gain access to the side impact sensor. Take out the screws holding the sensor to the door and break the electrical connections from the sensor. Get rid of any dirt, grease or impurities on the mounting surface after removing the sensor. Mount the new side impact sensor horizontally to the door and plug the electrical connector. Screw the sensor in place, tightening the screws to 9 N.m (79 lb in). Fully seat the water deflector against the door and re-install the door trim panel. Finally, enable the SIR system.
