2006 Buick LaCrosse A/C Clutch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?
A: In order to replace the compressor clutch assembly, start by removing the accessory Drive Belt from the a/ c compressor, as well as the lower air deflector. Remove the compressor clutch plate bolt and use the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) to hold the compressor clutch plate to prevent it from turning. Take off three adjustable dowels off from the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) and replace them with three 5/16x1 inch bolts. Then we remove the compressor clutch plate, and we then proceed to use the snap ring pliers (J 6083) to remove the compressor pulleys snap ring and the compressor pulley. Again remove the compressor clutch coil snap ring using the snap ring pliers (J 6083) and then remove the compressor clutch coil. Clean the clutch plate bolt threads using 6x1.0 m tap and blow out debris using compressed air. Install the compressor clutch coil and the compressor clutch coil snap ring with the snap ring pliers (J 6083). Mount the compressor pulley and its snap ring by using the snap ring pliers (J 6083). Use a drop or two of oil, and slide it behind the drive plate of the clutch before assembling it with the compressor clutch plate. Use a vernier caliper to measure the air gap between the pulley and the drive plate, and adjust the shims so that the air gap equals 0.3-0.6 mm (0.012-0.024 in), and make sure, when rotating the drive plate, it has to slide without dragging on the surface of pulley. Some nuts of bolt must also have colored adhesive on some of their threads, at least five, and its torque should be 12 n.m (106 lb in) using the compressor clutch holding tool (J 37872) holding the compressor clutch plate from turning. Lastly, replace the lower air deflector, refit the the accessory Drive Belt to the A/C Compressor, and carry out a leak test on the fittings using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
