How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?

The first step of suspension strut maintenance involves removing it completely from the vehicle. Set the strut inside the strut spring compressor (J 45400) for installation. Follow these steps to compress the spring: use the spring compressor forcing screw to turn while the spring becomes compressed. While you keep the strut shaft in place with a 45 torx socket use the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) to remove the upper strut mount nut. The strut spring compressor (J 45400) needs the strut removed before loosening the compressor forcing screw to free the upper strut mount and coil spring assembly. After installing the upper strut mount and coil spring into the strut spring compressor (J 45400) you should compress the coil spring. Attach the strut to coil spring and upper strut mount followed by installing the mounting nut using the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) together with a 45 torx socket until the nut reaches 75 nm (55 ft. Lbs.) of torque. Take the strut out of the strut spring compressor (J 45400) and reinstall it into your vehicle.
