A technician must perform these steps to change the engine oil and filter: raise the vehicle, position a drain pan underneath the oil Drain Plug and remove the plug. After draining engine oil inspect and clean the Drain Plug for damage before performing repairs or replacement. Clean and check the Oil Pan sealing surface for damage with replacement of the pan if necessary. Next, remove the Oil Filter. Lightly oil the replacement Oil Filter gasket with clean oil before putting in the new Oil Filter by twisting it to 3/4 to 1 full turn after the gasket touches the mounting surface. Screw the new engine oil Drain Plug into position, tighten to 20 nm (15 lb. Ft.) and take out the drain pan before lowering the vehicle and adding new oil to the engine.
