In order to replace the Catalytic Converter (RPO L26) you will remove the Oxygen Sensor wiring harness heat shield and the engine harness electrical connecter from heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and remove the ho2s. After that derive the Muffler to Catalytic Converter nuts and move the exhaust system rearward to clear the studs in the Catalytic Converter. Discard Catalytic Converter to Muffler gasket and remove Catalytic Converter to Exhaust Manifold nuts and then remove Catalytic Converter from the Exhaust Manifold, discard Catalytic Converter to manifold gasket. There is an option to replace the old Catalytic Converter with a new one. Thus, for the install, a new Catalytic Converter to manifold gasket is placed on the studs of the manifold and the Catalytic Converter to the Exhaust Manifold is installed and tightened to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Then, replace a new Catalytic Converter to Muffler gasket over the Catalytic Converter studs, align the exhaust system until the flange is over the Catalytic Converter studs, and attach the Muffler to the Catalytic Converter nuts and tighten them to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). It is essential to coat the ho2s threads with a special anti seize compound, composed of liquid graphite and glass beads before the insertion; when reinstalling an old sensor, try to be sure to coat the threads with anti-seize compound gm p/n 12377953 or equivalent. Finally, install the ho2s while making sure it is tightened to 42nn (31 ft. Lbs.), hook up the engine harness electrical connector to the ho2s, and reattach the Oxygen Sensor wiring harness heat shield.
