2006 Buick Rainier Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front air bag sensor on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: The sir system should be disabled as the first step to replace the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before powering up the system always secure the sensor to its mount and never hit the component to stop sir deployment or minimize personal risks. To access the front end sensor you need to first detach the grille along with the headlamp wire harness from its retaining clip. Once loose raise the harness until you can reach the sensor. Remove the sensor assembly from the frame by first loosening the bolts which retain it there. Move the sensor assembly above the front Bumper before removing its retaining bolts and protective cover attached to the sensor. Before taking the sensor out of the vehicle disconnect it by first removing the cpa from the sensor electrical connector and then removing the electrical sensor connector. First clean all surfaces but keep the sensor assembly level over the front Bumper before connecting the electrical wiring to the sensor. After installing the cpa on the sensor electrical connector, secure the retaining bolts while applying the protective cover to the sensor. The sensor assembly must face horizontally toward the frame's direction while the sensor arrow points toward the vehicle's front. The sensor assembly needs two bolts for attachment to the frame and requires 8 n.m (71 lb in) torque for tightening. Replace the headlamp wire harness into its retaining clip before securing it in position then install the grille. Finally, enable the sir system.
