2006 Buick Terraza Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2006 Buick Terraza?
A: Check the brake master cylinder fluid reservoir first. If fluid sits above the midpoint between maximum and minimum lines you should drain it until the level reaches the middle. Lift the vehicle and take out both the tire and wheel at the same time. Fix the rotor in place with its two wheel nuts before pushing the brake caliper piston into its bore using a c-clamp placed over the caliper and back of the outer Brake Pad until the component can be removed from the rotore. Maintain brake hose safety with heavy mechanic wire while pulling out the lower brake caliper guide point and c-clamp. Move the brake caliper upwards to see the brake pads and remove them plus the Brake Pad retainers from their bracket. Apply wood or the former Brake Pad between the c-clamp and brake caliper piston to shield the components from harm before pushing the piston all the way into the bore with the c-clamp. Check the brake caliper guide pin boots and brake caliper piston boot for damage which needs replacement. Replace the guide pins if corrosion or damage is found during inspection. Prepare the caliper boot surface by blotting it with denatured alcohol then reduce the piston depth in the bore by using a c-clamp and supporting the piston with the old Brake Pad or a block. Place the two Brake Pad retainers on the caliper bracket with the wear sensor installed at the trailing edge as the wheel turns forward. Then add the brake pads on top. Spread high temp brake silicone lube on the guide pin boot as well as the guide pin and move the brake caliper down to rest on top of the pads before tightening the lower guide pin to 40 ft. Lbs. (54 Nm). To complete brake maintenance you have to remove the two rotor wheel nuts, mount the tire and wheel, lower the car, and refill the master cylinder with fresh brake fluid to its designated level. Push the brake pedal until the brake pedal becomes firm then finish with disc pad and rotor preparation.
