- Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Calipers on 2006 Buick Terraza?A: When servicing and repairing the brake caliper, start by collecting the required equipment such as the caliper piston seal installer (J 35777). Remove the brake caliper, being sure to not have fingers in front of the caliper pistons(s) when using compressed air because pistons(s) can be ejected violently, resulting in a risk of injury. Pad the inside of the caliper housing with clean clothes when removing pistons, and apply pressure of compressed air to the hole of the brake caliper so that pistons come out easily. Check Brake Caliper Piston for scoring, nicks, corrosion or worn chrome plating, and change if necessary, any of the above. To take out the Brake Caliper Piston boot, use a flat-bladed tool; and a small wooden or plastic tool to remove the piston seal from the caliper bore and use metal tools so not to hurt it. Check out the caliper bore and seal groove for scoring, nicks, corrosion, or wear, polishing out the light corrosion with crocus cloth if you need to. Replace the caliper upon failing to clean corrosion. Check the brake caliper bolt boots for snips, tears, deterioration, and do also check for caliper bolts for signs of corrosion, replace whatever is necessary without polishing off corrosion. Do not remove the cap and the bleeder valve from the brake caliper housing, clean all parts with the degreased denatured alcohol and wipe them with filtered non-greasing compressed air. Blow all the passages in the housing of the caliper and the bleeder valve with filtered non-lubricated compressed air. For assembly, put the bleeder valve and cap back on to the caliper body, lubricate a new piston seal with delco supreme 11® gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or a similar dot-3 brake fluid, and install into bore caliper grooves without twisting. Lubricate the Brake Caliper Piston and boot and use to push into the bore to the bottom. Finally, seat the caliper boot in the caliper housing counterbore and install the caliper using the caliper piston seal installer (J 35777).
