How to replace the drive belt for the generator and water pump on 2006 Cadillac CTS?

Starting the Drive Belt replacement requires a 1/2 drive breaker bar or ratchet to turn the Drive Belt tensioner clockwise until the Drive Belt tension releases. After that remove the belt from both generator pulley and slowly let go of the tensioner. You must first uninstall the Drive Belt when it is situated between the Water Pump Pulley and crankshaft balancer. Position the Drive Belt onto the crankshaft balancer and Water Pump Pulley after which the Drive Belt tensioner should be rotated clockwise using a 1/2 drive breaker bar or ratchet to install the belt onto the generator before you let go of the tensioner slowly. The Drive Belt needs proper alignment with correct installation into the accessory drive pulley grooves.
