2006 Cadillac CTS Steering Shaft Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the lower intermediate steering shaft on 2006 Cadillac CTS?
A: The installation of the new lower intermediate Steering Shaft requires the front wheels to be aligned straight and the Steering Column set to lock position to safeguard against misalignment and damage to the sir coil assembly. First set the Ignition Lock Cylinder to lock while taking out the key from the ignition. Insert the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J42640) through the lower Steering Column trim cover's access hole to lock the Steering Column. Raise and support the vehicle. Take note of how the center intermediate shaft fits with the lower intermediate shaft so you can install them properly. Separate the center intermediate Steering Shaft from its lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt and lower intermediate Steering Shaft to power steering gear bolt. Separate the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from its connection points at both the power steering gear and center intermediate Steering Shaft. Start the installation by attaching the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to both the center intermediate Steering Shaft and the power steering gear. Pass the lower intermediate Steering Shaft through the power steering gear bolt before torquing it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and then do the same with the center intermediate Steering Shaft through lower intermediate Steering Shaft bolt with 30 nm (23 ft. Lbs.) torque. You should lower the vehicle to access the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J42640) which needs to be removed from the hole.
