• Q: How to replace the front brake caliper bracket (J55) on 2006 Cadillac DTS?

  A: To replace the front Brake Caliper Bracket (J55), you will have to remove the brake from the bracket mounting and hold it with heavy mechanic's wire while not detaching the hyrdaulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Then remove the brake pads and caliber retainers from Brake Caliper Bracket as well as the Brake Caliper Bracket bolt, and then the bracket goes off to the Steering Knuckle assembly. Clean brak caliper bracket of all debris and rust with a wire brush and check for cracks and damages replacing if necessary. Before the installation take the Brake Caliper Bracket bolt and the threaded holes, wash out any traces of the residues by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and let it dry. Apply threadlocker gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to two-thirds length of the lower caliper bracket bolts without leaving any gaps in there and then let it cure for about ten minutes. Mount the caliper bracket to the Steering Knuckle assembly and then mount the Brake Caliper Bracket bolt and tighten with a torque of 246 nm (181 ft. Lbs.). Apply a thin layer of high temperature silicone lube to the brake caliper pin bolts before installing the Brake Pad retainers and brake pads to the Brake Caliper Bracket, but before you install the caliper.
