2006 Cadillac DTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front brake pads (J55) on 2006 Cadillac DTS?
A: The first step before replacing front brake pads (J55) is to inspect brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. If it sets above half the maximum-full and minimum levels, remove fluid down to this point. Place the vehicle on lifts and measure how the wheel sits on the axle flange before taking off the tire assembly for work. Compress the calipers using a large c-clamp and move them into the caliper bore then slide them away from the rotor. Afterward, remove the c-clamp. Secure the caliper on mechanic's wire after removing the bolts from the brake caliper so the hydraulic brake hose stays safe. Set the caliper upward without breaking the hose then push the pistons completely into place using another large c-clamp held against an old Brake Pad or wood block. Erase the c-clamp away from the Brake Pad then old wood block. Pull the brake pads out of the mount bracket and check the pad retainers. Inspect both ends of the brake caliper bolt suspension boots to replace damaged parts and analyze pin bolt corrosion to update unusable bolts. Verify that your piston boot shows signs of decay and get a fresh one when necessary. Lower the caliper onto new brake pads when you place the Brake Pad retainers into their bracket while applying high-temp silicone lube to the front brake caliper bolt pins. Place the lower brake caliper pin in its slot and tighten all six pins to 113 nm (83 ft.lbs.). Finally place the tire and wheel combination in their designated position before lowering the vehicle. Without starting the engine press the Brake Pedal until it reaches 2/3 of its movement and reduce pressure slowly. Apply the Brake Pedal until you achieve good force which makes sure the braking components stay in their correct position. After filling the fluid into the brake master cylinder reservoir you must use an appropriate method to smooth out the brake pads' and rotors' surfaces.
